Since its creation in 1993, ESMA offers a training in CG Animation & FX cycle, which has constantly evolved in contact with animation professionals who accompany us every year. This training, equivalent to a french Bac + 5 level (RNCP level 7), now enjoys international recognition from the professional world, and support from the biggest names in animation. ESMA Training
(PRODUCTION OF GRADUATION SHORT FILMS)
A Preparatory year
Accessible after the Bac (or equivalent), this year of study allows students wishing to enter the professional cycle CG Animation & FX, to learn beforehand the mastery of drawing, and the beginnings of the animation. Focused on technical and artistic apprenticeships, this year aims to provide students with all the basics required to enter graduate studies in animation.
The preparatory year is available in English on the Lyon and Montpellier campuses.
Professionnal degree in CG Animation & FX
The professional CG animation & FX cycle gives in 5 years all theoretical knowledge and technical skills to become a CG animator, CG director or FX supervisor. This training professional artists, allows tomorrow’s creative start their careers in optimal conditions, integrating the largest animation studios or video games in the world.
The English version of the training is delivered on the Lyon and Montpellier campuses.

Avec son cycle professionnel en Cinéma d’animation 3D & Effets spéciaux, l’ESMA place la barre haute en terme d’ambition pour ses étudiants.
En 5 ans, nos équipes pédagogiques les accompagnent dans leur acquisition des outils de création et dans le développement de leurs compétences artistiques et techniques, nécessaires à l’élaboration de projets d’animation.
Accessible après le Bac, cette formation s’adresse à celles et ceux qui se destinent aux métiers de l’animation, des jeux vidéos et de la création, et qui bénéficient déjà d’une certaine expérience artistique.
Pour les autres, l’ESMA propose une année préparatoire, la Prépa Entertainement, qui apporte tous les fondamentaux requis pour intégrer ce cycle professionnel en Cinéma d’animation 3D & Effets spéciaux.
Une formation professionnalisante
A travers la découverte de chaque étape du process de création d’un projet d’animation (pré-production, production et post-production), les étudiants vont mettre en pratique leurs connaissances, et les perfectionner dans une optique de professionnalisation. Storyboard, layout, character design, mais aussi modélisation, rigging, animation, éclairage, rendu, effets spéciaux…
L’étudiant est formé à chaque technique et chaque pratique artistique, et peut prétendre à intégrer un projet à chacune de ses étapes d’élaboration.
L’accent est également mis sur une pratique accrue des différents logiciels de création, dont les étudiants maîtrisent tous les rouages au sortir de leur formation.
La professionnalisation de nos étudiants étant l’un de nos principaux objectifs, nous mettons un point d’honneur à multiplier les temps de rencontre entre étudiants et professionnels de l’animation. Aussi, lors de leur formation en cinéma d’animation 3D & effets spéciaux à l’ESMA, nos étudiants bénéficient de nombreuses interventions et de partages d’expérience, dans le cadre de masterclasses, conférences et autre workshops.
La période de stage en fin de 2e année participe aussi à cette professionnalisation. Elle permet de mettre en pratique les compétences acquises, et ce dans de véritables conditions professionnelles. C’est aussi l’occasion pour les étudiants de créer leur propre réseau, et de penser leur projet professionnel de façon plus concrète.
Un film de fin d’études
Lors de leur dernière année d’études, les étudiants travaillent à l’élaboration d’un court-métrage d’animation.
Pendant près d’un an, les étudiants vont penser un projet d’animation, de sa scénarisation à son élaboration visuelle et technique, mettant en commun tout le savoir et les compétences qu’ils auront acquis dans le cadre de leur formation. Ce film de fin d’études est ensuite présenté devant un jury de professionnels, qui se rassemble chaque année pour juger de la qualité des projets, mais aussi rencontrer les futurs créatifs qui viendront fournir leurs équipes.
A l’ESMA, nous sommes fiers des taux d’insertion de nos étudiants : seulement 9 mois après l’obtention de leur diplôme en Cinéma d’animation 3D & Effets spéciaux, nos étudiants enregistrent un taux de placement de 93 %.

Descriptif du métier visé
La formation Cinéma d’Animation 3D & Effets Spéciaux prépare, en 5 ans, au métier d’Expert en conception et réalisation de films d’animation 3D et effets spéciaux.
A l’issue de la formation est délivrée la certification professionnelle Expert en conception et réalisation – Animation 3D et Effets Spéciaux de niveau 7, enregistrée au RNCP (RNCP 37415).
