Oliver, alone in a dark and hostile town, faces the snow and the cold.
He has just one mission in mind: to survive.
But just when he thinks he’s found a glimmer of hope, the city’s shadows reveal their secrets…
Edward, a young boy from a wealthy family, is searching for his brother, who has disappeared into the dark alleys in the middle of the night.
Further down the alley, Oliver, a stunted-looking thirteen-year-old, is looking for a source of warmth.
When Edward notices him, he decides to steal his heat-producing lantern and take off running, but during the chase Edward has a terrible encounter.
Oliver hears a muffled scream from behind.
He turns back, because he needs the vials of fuel to power the lantern. There is a trail of blood in the snow, and at the end of it Edward’s body is being carried away by someone, or something.
Horrified, Oliver hesitates, but he needs those vials of fuel to survive, so he decides to follow them.
The blood trails lead to a gloomy underground passage. After wandering these corridors for some time, he enters a large machine room. The killer is here, placing the child’s body in this immense machine.
Oliver witnesses the horrific scene as Edward’s body is crushed and used to create fuel. Jack, the murderer, notices Oliver and pounces on him, revealing his true nature: he is a robot.
Jack wants to kill Oliver, who is trying to escape, but the robot is too strong. Cornered, Oliver is desperate, and in a panic he manages to damage his enemy, which explodes after a few seconds.
Shocked, he doesn’t know what to do or how to react. He wants to destroy whatever is at the root of this tragedy, but realises that death awaits him if he doesn’t.
Oliver returns to the surface with the lantern and vials of fuel.
The serious expression on his face shows the harsh reality when he decides to feed the lantern to keep warm in the cold of the night.
