In the middle of the ocean, two islands face each other: one is arid and hostile, dominated by an active volcano, while the other appears to be a lush paradise, bursting with fruit and colour.

On the volcanic island, a colony of hungry, idle dodos pass the time as best they can, all dreaming of reaching the idyllic island just opposite… but separated by an unwelcoming sea, inhabited by a fearsome shark that already sees itself eating them all.

One of the dodos, clumsy and a bit simple, tries as best he can to feed himself, but to no avail. Wandering along the beach, he stumbles across a mysterious stele buried in the sand.

Intrigued, he digs it up and shows it to the other dodos. Engraved on the stone are rudimentary drawings that seem to tell a story: that of dodos trying to fly away to reach the island paradise and its fruit. Hope is immediately rekindled in the group.

Convinced they had found the solution, the dodos embarked on a series of attempts to fly that were as inventive as they were disastrous.

Desperate jumps from cliffs, wings cobbled together from stolen feathers, geysers used as springboards, unstable poles and improvised contraptions… every attempt ends in abject failure.

One fall follows another, some of them fatal, while the shark prowls around, feasting on this unexpected abundance.

As the attempts fail, the deaths multiply. The souls of the deceased dodos climb painfully up an interminable celestial staircase to heaven, underlining the tragic absurdity of their efforts. Despite their losses, the survivors refuse to give up. One ingenious dodo engraves new drawings on the stele, representing a more ambitious idea: to build a gigantic living rocket made of dodos stacked one on top of the other.

Buoyed by this ultimate hope, the dodos climb the volcano and scramble together to form the rocket. In a collective effort, they throw themselves into the crater to provoke an eruption that is supposed to propel them towards the coveted paradise. The eruption is spectacular… but the plan fails once again. The rocket crashes, the dodos fall back into the lava and chaos ensues.

The dodo carrying the stele, swept away by the explosion, slides at full speed across the island, pursued by the lava. Thrown into the air, he thinks for a moment that he has made it, flapping his wings in hope. But reality suddenly catches up with him: the stele is swallowed up by the shark, and the dodo, exhausted, falls one last time into the ocean.

His soul then leaves his body and begins its own ascent to paradise… only to be brought to a screeching halt by a final twist of fate, concluding this absurd and tragic quest for an El Dorado never to be reached.
