Matt and his partner, two young American soldiers, are on a mission.

They pass through a Vietnamese village in ruins. A noise in one of the houses catches their attention.

Matt rushes in alone and kicks down the door, a shot rings out.

Matt, victorious, returns home to America at the end of the war and tells his wife of his arrival. James, his young son, is intimidated and hides in the living room.

To build his confidence, Matt gives him a toy helicopter. Little by little, they find each other. James flies his new toy around the living room.

Suddenly the TV changes channel and a victorious war speech for the Americans is shown. Matt turns it off and starts the game again with his son in the hallway.

At the end of the corridor, the crackle of a radio catches his attention. Matt moves towards the sound, which intensifies until an explosion sounds. Matt falls to the ground.

When he stands up, a thick jungle fills the corridor. James screams. Worried, Matt cuts his way through the vines.

When he arrives in the living room, he finds his house totally bombed. Matt throws himself on the rubble to find James. When he finally finds his son, he is in tears.

Panicked, Matt felt his son, his knife still in his hand. James is holding his toy close to him, a woodchuck emerges from the toy and Matt jerks the animal away. The toy falls to the ground. James, terrified of his father, runs upstairs.

Matt sets off in pursuit. He climbs the steps, which gradually disappear in a thick gas. He finds himself lost in a vast space filled with orange gas.

Desperately searching for his son and wife, Matt spots silhouettes in the distance. As he moves closer, he discovers first a statue of his team-mate and then a statue of himself, gun at the ready.

A helicopter flies overhead, heading towards the silhouette of a child holding his mother’s hand. Matt thinks he sees his wife and son and rushes towards them, but the woman collapses, blown away by the helicopter.

Matt tries to catch up with his child, who is running away, but a corridor appears in front of him, building up as he runs. The terrifying sound of the helicopter echoes around him before it crashes between him and his son. Matt barely escapes the corridor and finds himself in a pitch-black room.

He finally spots James, but his chest is bleeding. As he moves forward, he crushes the toy helicopter.

Matt is back in his military uniform, rifle in hand. He realises that it’s not his son standing in front of him.

It’s a Vietnamese child in the middle of the rubble on the battlefield, holding the hand of his mother’s dead body.

The child collapses. Matt, dressed as a soldier, his gun still smoking, realises his crime and collapses to the ground.
