A fire crackles in a den. The shaman, in a deep, haunting voice, gives a lecture on the properties and dangers of periwinkle.
Basile, a little badger with deformed spots, is distracted by Arthur and Paul, who make fun of him.
The shaman gets angry.
Since they won’t listen, she’ll tell them the story of Meles and what happens to misbehaving badgers.

Later Basil, Arthur and Paul are at the edge of the forest, determined to venture into it instead of going home.
Arthur urges Basile on despite his fear. The sun is setting and the forest is getting darker and darker.
They arrive at a gigantic oak tree. According to the shaman, the Meles, a terrifying creature that feeds on fear, lurks at its foot.
Paul and Arthur terrorise Basile, beating him and making fun of his spots. They end up pushing him into a hole and leaving him alone and desperate for the night.
Basile panics, unable to get out. The forest seems more and more threatening with its worrying noises. He has a panic attack. The forest closes in on him. He screams for his life.
Meanwhile, Arthur and Paul, laughing at their bad jokes, are interrupted by a terrifying howl. They listen carefully.
Something lurks around them, growling. The beast is chasing them.

The badgers try to escape and manage to hide in a tree stump. But Meles is not far away. He’s looking for them. Arthur, a coward, throws his friend out of the hiding place. The Meles pounces on Paul and devours him, while Arthur takes the opportunity to escape.
Arthur continues to flee. The Meles is after him again. Arthur spotted a burrow, his last chance to escape. He redoubled his efforts, but the creature caught up with him. Trapped between the beast’s enormous claws, Arthur realised when he saw the deformed spots on the Meles’ head that it was Basil. But Basile brutally kills him.
Leaving behind the corpse of his former tormentor, Meles sinks into the forest, which is now silent once more.
