Promised a marriage she has not chosen, Yulya runs away with Novak, her lover.

Together, they embark on a clandestine crossing of the Danube to escape Yugoslavia, helped by the enigmatic Matko.

But once the boat is underway, their hope of freedom is caught in a trap: that of the Ogre.

Forced to join the ultra-nationalist Serb militia, Novak committed the irreparable.

Outraged, he deserted to find Yulya, his childhood sweetheart, and flee the country with her, far from the violence.

Together, they manage to find Matko , who accepts them aboard his boat to sail down the Danube.

Once on board, Novak and Yulya think they are saved, but the Danube Ogre’s trap is revealed.

Matko and Viktor separate the couple under the orders of the Ogre, Novak is chained up in the machine rooms and Yulya is about to be raped by Matko.

But Novak triggers an explosion in the engine room that kills Viktor and causes chaos on board.

Novak and Yulya look for each other on board as the Ogre prowls around.

Matko is mercilessly eliminated by the Ogre and Novak narrowly escapes thanks to Yulya.

Together, they narrowly escape the Ogre’s violence, but drift through the darkness with the weight of their own actions on their shoulders towards a future filled with doubts.
