Le Prix de la Gloire

“Le Prix De La Gloire” depicts an air battle during the 1st World War.

The story begins in a sky full of clouds and tension, whenAntoine, a young French pilot in his fighter plane, meets a fearsome German pilot. Both soldiers have a determined look in their eyes, and both are driven by a desire for glory.

The duel begins, punctuated by the sound of the propellers and the whistle of the wind. Each side scrutinises the other through the canopy, ready to gain the upper hand. The French pilot, confident, is the first to attack.

He knows the moves, has studied the tactics and rehearsed the sequences. But the German is no novice.

The two aircraft dived, turned, climbed again, narrowly avoiding each other. Bullets fly, engines struggle, sweat beads under the helmets. The battle is fierce, precise, almost choreographed. But the stakes are very real. At any second, one of them could fall.

As the battle wore on, the roles reversed. The Frenchman found himself in a position of weakness. He takes the brunt of it, dodges narrowly. Then, in a moment of desperate audacity, he tried a final manoeuvre.

A daring pirouette, a risky turn, which worked in spite of everything and enabled him to regain the upper hand.

Then the German was finally hit. His plane crashed to the ground in a spray of smoke and dust. The Frenchman landed nearby, victorious but shaken.

In front of the smoking wreckage, he discovers his enemy wounded and dying. They look at each other, and the French soldier understands that glory comes at a price …
