In the abandoned thermal baths, two young girls are lounging until one of them, Anera, gets up to join in the celebration of the union of her sister, Proté, with her partner.
To seal the union between the two, each must give his fruit to the other to bite into, then put it back next to the heart.
Later, coming down from the sacred orchard, King Onoke gives a pear to his grandson thanks to the royal glove, the only glove that allows the King to dispose of everyone else’s fruit.
He places the fruit on the baby’s chest and it disappears, leaving a stain.
Another morning, in the public square, the king condemned two men to death. The reason was simple: they had no right to love and unite, because they had the same fruit and were upsetting the existing harmony.
Then, that evening, Anera didn’t turn up to the dinner party organised by her father.
Furious, he leaves the dining room and talks to his other daughter, trying to understand why Anera refuses to choose a suitor from among all those he has presented to her so far.
He then tries to find his daughter and ends up catching her in the company of her lover Krimen.
She is imprisoned while the king takes Anera to the orchard.
He tries in vain to explain his vision of the law to her, but when she refuses, he locks her in her room.
At dawn, Anera escapes as her father prepares to snatch the fruit from Krimen.
By the time she reached the podium, it was already too late: Onoke was crushing Krimen’s fruit, and Anera could see it being snuffed out before her very eyes.
Devastated, she grabs her father’s glove, pulls out her own fruit and crushes it, killing herself in the process.
