The story begins with Wilson, a former space soldier who seems to be living a peaceful life on a strange planet, and has befriended a large creature called Bibi.
One morning, as Bibi ventures into the water in search of fish, Wilson sits quietly on the shore.
Suddenly, he had a violent coughing fit. He puts his hand to his face and discovers, to his horror, that he is coughing up blood.
Dark veins are gradually appearing on his skin.
Unaware of the situation, Bibi keeps going in and out of the water to bring her new fish. When she finally emerges, Wilson has disappeared.
Worried, the creature set off in search of him, following his scent through the vegetation.
For his part, Wilson has left the oasis to return to his ship, which he had once abandoned.
He hopes to be able to diagnose himself and understand the seriousness of his condition.
But along the way, his illness worsened. Weak and wobbly, Wilson struggled to move forward. Luckily, Bibi finds him and snuggles up to him, bringing him some comfort.
When they arrived at the ship, Wilson started the analysis. The verdict was in: his condition was critical. The screen tells him that he must return to Earth if he is to survive.
He is faced with an agonising choice: leave to seek treatment and abandon Bibi and the planet he loves so much forever, or stay here and risk losing his life.
Stunned, Wilson sat down, tried to process the news, then collapsed, overwhelmed by sadness. After a long silence, he got to his feet, met Bibi’s eyes and gave her a tender hug.
The decision is made. Wilson chooses to stay by his friend’s side, in the land that has given him a second life.
He passes away peacefully, a smile on his lips, gradually melting into the nature that welcomes him.
