A crowning achievement for the film Trash: finalist at the 2025 BAFTA Student Awards!

News . 29 May. 2025

ESMA is honored to announce that the 3D animated film Trash has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 BAFTA Student Awards in the animated film category!

Major recognition for ESMA students

Directed by Gregory Bouzid, Maxime Crançon, Robin Delaporte, Matteo Durand, Romain Fleischer, Alexis Le Ral, Margaux Lutz, and Fanny Vecchie as part of their final year at ESMA, the short film Trash continues its meteoric rise on the international scene.

In early May, it was included in the official longlist for the 2025 BAFTA Student Awards, a prestigious selection organized by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Among more than 1,000 works submitted by schools from around the world, Trash already stood out alongside three other ESMA productions—Cartagène, Dawn, and Tricot de Corps—as well as the video game Dans la peau d’un Polatouche, demonstrating the richness and creative diversity of the school.

On May 19, the announcement of the finalists confirmed this momentum: Trash is now one of the three finalists in the animation category. This is a major international recognition that propels the work of ESMA students to the forefront of the global stage.

1 special jury prize and 5 categories

Created in 2017, the BAFTA Student Awards celebrate excellence in student creativity across five major categories: fiction (live action), animation, documentary, video games, and immersive experiences. A real springboard into the film, audiovisual and interactive entertainment industries, this competition has become an international benchmark for spotting the future big names in creation. Each edition selects 15 finalists from all disciplines, chosen from hundreds of entries from around the world.

Being a finalist means gaining prestigious recognition, a guarantee of high artistic and technical standards, and valuable visibility among industry professionals.

In addition to these awards, a Special Jury Prize is awarded by a committee of influential industry figures to a work that stands out for its originality, narrative strength or artistic commitment.

Expected result in June

This selection once again confirms the high standards and remarkable creativity cultivated at ESMA, whose students continue to shine on the international stage.

We will now have to wait until the official ceremony, which will take place in Los Angeles from June 9 to 13, to find out the final result of the BAFTA Student Awards.

In the meantime, the entire ESMA community extends its sincere support to the directors of Trash, with the hope that they will be crowned with success.
