The training in “CG Animation & FX” offered at ESMA aims at training those who intend to work as animators in the fields of CG animation and FX

The CG animation and FX specialists first analyze the characteristics of their project. In a second phase, they produce the animation prototype, model the graphic elements (characters, objects and environment), apply textures and colors, set up lighting, animate the graphic elements and complete the final rendering of the animation. They can also create digital visual effects and compose images.

The “CG Animation & FX” program makes it possible to juggle two training requirements, which are versatility and specialization. Versatility is ensured by the acquisition of a general culture and basic training in the analysis of artworks and films, artistic drawing, model sculpting, the use of image acquisition tools, the mastering of image processing and animation software, scenography and storyboard creation. Specialization, necessary to enter the labour market successfully, is ensured by the acquisition of specific skills related to CG production, such as design, modeling and animation of graphic elements.

During this training in CG animation and FX, students will learn how to handle and master the main CG software: Maya (modeling, texturing, animation), Houdini (specialized in CG FX), Marvelous (specialized in fabrics), Arnold and Renderman (rendering engines), Yeti (specialized in hair, fur)…

As part of their final year of study, students elaborate an animated short film in groups, presented to a jury of professionals. This project allows them to put into practice the skills acquired during their training. The presentation of this film is also an opportunity for students to meet animation and visual effects professionals, to position themselves and immediately consider a fulfilling and successful career in the animation industry.
