Cartoon Forum 2023: ESMA in the front row

News . 25 Oct. 2023
Montpellier, Toulouse

Cartoon Forum is the leading event in the world of animation! Held in Toulouse every year, the event brings together the crème de la crème of the European animation world, enabling professionals, students and enthusiasts to exchange ideas and share their passion. Like every year, ESMA and its students were there. Here’s a look back at four days rich in learning!

CARTOON FORUM: BRINGING ANIMATION PROJECTS TO LIFE

Created in 1990 on the initiative of the Brussels-based European Animation Film Association (CARTOON), the Cartoon Forum is an event dedicated to pitching and producing animation projects. For 4 days, producers are given carte blanche to present the projects of their choice, pitching them to an audience of potential broadcasters. This event, which aims to bring ambitious and exciting projects to life, has led to the creation of over 963 series since its launch!

TWO ESMA FILMS IN THE COACHING PROGRAM AT CARTOON FORUM 2023

Each year, this event is also an opportunity to discover the work of young students from animation schools in the Occitanie region, who are invited to take part in Coaching Programme sessions, with a view to pitching their project to a jury of professionals.

Among the projects selected by the selection committee, ESMA was represented twice:

  • firstly, with the Montpellier project, brilliantly presented by Clémentine Gabard, who managed to convey the project’s technical and narrative qualities in a clear, dynamic presentation. The members of the jury, whose praise and constructive comments were greatly appreciated, praised in particular the originality of the narrative angle chosen, the palpable emotion of the characters and the situations described, as well as the graphic work already carried out,
  • then with the Toulouse project, aimed at 0-6 year olds, brilliantly supported by Jeanne Audounet. The young student was congratulated on the quality of her presentation, and also received many constructive comments on her project, which deals with the relationship between siblings and sisterhood.

The two students had to defend their respective projects in front of 12 film schools in the Occitanie region, two production directors, a representative of Toulouse city council and a representative of the region.

Congratulations to all the students on the quality of their work, and see you next year for the 2024 edition of the Cartoon Forum!
