In a small bush, Sam and his friend Paul are watching a crowd of lizards gathered round a large thermometer.
The lizards tap their tails one after the other to measure them and, once the measurements are complete, each one sets off with a female. Sam watches the scene with envy and thinks to himself that it would be brilliant to be able to do the same.
Suddenly, Jason arrives , pushes Sam and Paul aside and heads for the thermometer. He measures his long tail, then a second tail strikes the thermometer: the mercury shoots up and the glass cracks.
Jason sits up as two females slip into his arms. Sam watches the scene and notices Nina, a lizard who is smiling at him admiringly.
Jason then teases Sam, pointing out that he doesn’t have a tail, whereas he has two.
Tired of the teasing, Sam gets annoyed but eventually gives up.
To cheer him up, Paul decides to go with him in search of a new tail.
After trying out a few things he’d found on the ground, Sam finally came across a big orange tail belonging to a giant dinosaur toy.
After a moment of panic at the sight of the roaring toy, Sam and Paul manage to detach the tail and run off with it.
Paul helps Sam attach the new tail. Sam then walks up to the thermometer whilst all the lizards gather round him. He measures his tail and Nina immediately comes over to give him a hug. Although happy at first, Sam begins to feel a bit uncomfortable. This moment isn’t as satisfying as he’d imagined.
He looks around and spots Paul walking away. Sam quickly unties the tail, hands it to Nina and runs to catch up with his friend. Jason watches the scene unfold, then gives Sam a nod of approval. Sitting on a rock, Paul is surprised to see Sam coming back. The two friends exchange a knowing glance and set off together again, simply enjoying each other’s company.
