Isaac, a young American man fascinated by the art of drag, is about to perform a drag show act for the first time in a traditional cabaret.

That evening, as he was getting ready in his dressing room, Isaac was repulsed by his own reflection. In the mirror, he saw himself as a monster. A sense of unease took hold of him, linked to his mother’s rejection.

Encouraged by the caring and loving presence of his mother, Drag, Diva La vida, Isaac is regaining his self-confidence.

With a wig, high heels, make-up and sequins, Isaac hides his unease and transforms into Pearl, his self-assured drag alter ego. On the cabaret stage, hidden behind a mask, Pearl begins her burlesque striptease routine. Her confidence shines through, her dance steps are executed to perfection, gradually revealing her masculine figure to a surprised audience.

Her confidence vanishes instantly when she spots her mother in the audience, who has come to watch her son’s performance. Her mother’s presence reawakens Pearl’s doubts and old traumas, throwing her off her stride during the performance.

Her mother’s presence reawakens doubts and old traumas in Pearl, which throw her off her stride during her performance. Meanwhile, her mother, influenced by what she perceives as negative stares from the audience, leaves the hall in shame, abandoning her son yet again. Pearl sinks into a state of unease and loneliness. She is saved by Diva la vida, who enters the stage, playing a symbolic melody that reminds Pearl of happy memories from their shared past.

With Diva’s help, Pearl realises that she was dancing for the wrong person and that she doesn’t need her mother’s approval to accept herself for who she really is. She pulls herself together and launches into a spectacular new pop performance. She rounds off her show in style, accompanied by ‘Diva la vida’.
