Samia, a hyperactive child, is running around the museum. Tixe, the emergency exit sign, watches her from his frame. Samia is caught by the guide and returns to her class. Tixe steps out of his frame and invites Samia to come over to a vase in the middle of the room. Samia steps forward. Tixe circles the vase, which begins to come to life, but the guide interrupts him by making a comment to the class. Samia and Tixe jump and hide behind the vase’s plinth. Samia knocks it over and Tixe catches it. The class leaves.
Samia hears some sounds, turns her head and sees Tixe in a naïve painting. Samia steps forward, Tixe blows, and the painting comes to life. A breeze blows and Samia runs her hand through her hair. Tixe steps into the painting, joins the animals and plays. Tixe tugs at the lion’s whiskers; Samia laughs. Tixe steps out of the painting and invites Samia to follow him.
Tixe enters the surrealist painting. Samia follows him. Tixe hides, reappears and jumps on musical notes. The notes emerge from the painting towards Samia. Samia touches them and steps into the artwork. They run around and touch the objects. Everything comes to life. Samia and Tixe make music. The guide arrives with the class. The artwork freezes; Tixe points to the window in the painting, and they step out.
Behind them, Samia and Tixe are standing on floating platforms in an abstract painting. They jump from one to the next, where gravity and perspective vary. The platforms form a course. Samia pulls ahead, whilst Tixe slows down and lets Samia complete the course.
Samia comes to a corridor and steps inside. At the far end, coloured lines stand out against a black background. Samia walks into a contemporary painting, but there is little light, with faint wisps of coloured smoke. As she walks, her footsteps affect the space and displace the smoke. Samia turns round: Tixe and the corridor are no longer there. Samia is frightened and stops in her tracks. The lights dim until everything is pitch black.
Samia is crying; her tears fall to the floor and create a faint glow. Seeing this light, Samia walks on, and more and more lights appear. Samia runs, full of joy, through the space of light and steps out of the painting.
Tixe finds Samia in the museum and congratulates her. The class arrives, and Samia joins them. Tixe returns to his booth. The guide criticises a piece of street art. Samia steps forward, encouraged by Tixe. Samia talks about the artwork, and her class listens. The guide is lost for words. Tixe applauds, as does the class. As she leaves, Samia glances towards the emergency sign, and Tixe waves to her.
